Angie in Bali: Catching Tuna fishes in Nusa Lembongan Island

Nusa Lembongan Island is 30 minutes boat rides away from Bali island, Indonesia.

How to go to Nusa Lembongan Island from BALI? Read here : Tips: How to travel from Bali to Nusa Lembongan / Nusa Lembongan to Bali

It is a small, well cherished secret for all travellers who prefer a simpler, ‘back to the roots’ holiday experience. Nusa Lembongan’s small size doesn’t prevent from offering a myriad of activities: surfing, snorkeling, parasailing, spa and even yoga are available between relaxing walks and leisurely beach combing.

I went to this island many time by Bali Hai Luxury Cruise, which I depart from Bali at 9am, and I return to Bali again on the same day at 4.00pm. The cruise features many exciting goodies, starting with a 35 meters water slide (yes, a water slide on a boat!), and mouth watering food to recharge your body after unlimited banana boat rides, snorkeling, and a cultural tour of Lembongan Island.

However, Nusa Lembongan Island has too much to offer. That is why last weekend(31st August 2014) , we went there and spend a 3 days 2 nights touring around the island, and touring to Nusa Ceningan too. More photos and stories will be shared soon.

In this article, I am sharing my Sunrise Tuna Fishing Tour experience.

We had really good time doing this fishing tour(with fish net) with the fisherman – Pak Nofi.

We woke up at 4.30am, the boat depart from Mangrove Forest to the ocean at 5am.

We caught 25 Tuna fishes. We grilled the Tuna fish on the spot. The taste is – speechless… Fresh! Fresh! Fresh!

Fishing and sharing a meal with a locals is a very fulfilling, authentic experience for me.

We paid only USD20 per person and below are what we get:

1) Tuna Fish as our breakfast(buffet), eat all you can. If no fishes are caught, then no Tuna fishes will be grilled and served.
2) Boat ride to/fro the ocean from Mangrove Forest.
3) Lifetime memories: We saw dolphins ate the Tuna fishes which were trapped in between the fishing net. The 100 meter net was damaged and the dolphins swam away so quickly. No photos were taken, that was a dangerous moment as I was scared, I didn’t even thinking of taking photos at that moments.

Do you know the only time to catch the Tuna Fish with fishing net is from 5am to 7am? No fishes will be caught after 7am. I was told the fishes won’t come during day light because they can see the fishing net.

We learned a lot about fishing. We learned about dolphins too. Fishermen hate dolphins, the dolphins always stealing the fishes from the fishing net, and they always damage the net. The fishermen have to repair the net if they caught the dolphins accidentally. Fishermen wont kill dolphins, dolphins are the protected animals.

Sharing this photo album as stories… Hope you all like them. I am lazy to tell a lot of stories. Photos will tell….

Here, we caught Tuna fish with the fishing net. The fishing net is heavy, you must be strong enough so you can pull the fishes out from the water. Pak Nofi is very strong, we tried, failed and almost fell into the water. Thank Gods we were still alive.
